To say you'd rather work the kinks out and lose one now might sound cliche, but it is true.  However, dropping one to the team you just watched your rival clobber is not the way you want to start the season out at home.

Riverside smothered St. Joe's to start the second half and hung on down the stretch, earning a big road win in non-league action.  The victory improves the Frontiers to 2-1, while St. Joe's falls to 1-1.

Deon Artis lead the victors with a game-high 23 points and 17 rebounds, while sophomore Justice Feggans scored 18 and Gilbert Herrera added 17 points.  "It was a great team effort tonight" Riverside head coach Ron Killinger said.

After taking a three-point lead into the intermission, Riverside opened the third quarter on a 15-1 run and took firm command of the game with a 52-35 lead.  The Frontiers capitalized on Marauder misses, frustrated them into careless turnovers, and dictated the tempo of the game during the decisive run.

St. Joe's seemed to struggle matching up with the smaller and quicker Yale Cup squad.  After closing the deficit to 56-44 heading into the fourth quarter, Riverside came out quickly again and stretched its lead to 18 points, 62-44.

"We have to defend a lot better than that.  We couldn't stop their penetration, we tried switching to a zone…we're still a work in progress", St. Joe's head coach Mark Simon said.

The Marauders finally found a sense of urgency in the fourth, particularly in the way they defended. But by that point, the lead was too much to overcome.  St. Joe's was unable to get any closer than nine points until the final minute of the game.

Connor Rehbaum led the Mauraders with 18 points. Reggie Agbeko scored 17 points, grabbed 13 boards, and blocked four shots, while Chad Kelly scored 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five steals.

CC, thanks for the report. This is a game I wanted to see. Unfortunately had to work tonight. A nice win for Ron Killinger, another one of may favorite characters in local hoops, and crew. Also I’m guessing a great game for Joe’s to cut their teeth and get their game where they will want it later in the year.
On a different note, nice win for Timon over OTC. Could Timon be a factor in the MMA this year???
