The Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) has designated the week of January 31st through February 4th, as Coaches vs. Cancer week. Its purpose is to raise awareness about fundraising efforts to help fight cancer. High school coaches throughout New York will be wearing sneakers during their games this week, emulating college coaches, who will be wearing sneakers during games the following week.
Spectators are asked to donate to this fine cause at their local high school game next week. Last year, over $20,000 was raised in Section VI alone and over $200,000 was raised in New York State through the efforts of the BCANY.
This Friday, January 28th, Williamsville East hosts Williamsville South. The BCANY has designated this game as the special Coaches vs. Cancer tip-off game to highlight the special week to follow in New York.
Donations may also be sent to either of the following:
Al Monaco Dave Archer
BCANY – Section VI Executive Director of BCANY
c/o Williamsville South HS OR 524 Dickson Street
5950 Main Street Endicott, NY 13760
Williamsville, NY 14221
Checks should be made payable to: American Cancer Society
High school sports provides a wonderful form of entertainment for us at a very inexpensive price. The players compete for the love of the game, the coaches put in countless hours for what equates to peanuts, and volunteer efforts are a major part of what makes high school sports possible. The efforts of BCANY are very noble and for an extremely worthy cause. Please support those efforts any way you can, because cancer truly does affect everyone.
