    MIG,
As far as I’m concerned, you’re known for two things…….Number one, which was a straight up lie, you claimed to say Stan Wier is transferring to Canisius, I eventually come back, citing real sources, that it’s NOT happening, and you take moronic stabs and make it personal and if/when I get the energy to rehash or cut/paste, you straight up said “your sources were better than mine” and even mentioned family as your source?
Even better, you actually admit you’re full of (explicit) and say………and I quote (you) “It might b, cause I just made all the Weir stuff up 2 generate comments. I really have no idea! The other 1 was the real thing but I threw Weir in there cause I thought it would make it more fun. I still hope he comes back”………….and even better, here’s a beauty “The ONLY reason I come on this blog is knowing that I have the power 2 do that!”
Here’s the kicker……….I have two “sources”, one who happens to run a particular blog concentrated on high school basketball (hint) and another who is the high school sports reporter for the biggest newspaper in town, and they BOTH confirm the same thing to me…….. To my astonishment, because I swear on my children I thought you were in high school, you’re actually a full-grown adult????
Whoa……….You’re not a kid???????? and you admit to lying to “generate comments”??? Come on dude, really? Yeah, my “rag”. blah blah blah………You’re seriously an ‘adult’ making up lies about high school basketball players to generate comments??

I am beginning to realize why Bobby Knight had so much disdain for the media that believe they know more than the coaches. Thank you to MIG and your namesake who couldn’t be more wrong.

Salute to you maggots…Wah wah wah. That is the crying noise coming from the voices of jack herland and mark simon all the way from Kenmore Ave. I had to zip up my tent last night at the army base because the crying noises were so loud from Kenmore Ave. St Joes might as well hook up with a community college and call themselves SJCI-Middle College because they are turning into a transfer haven. If the soldiers in my command ever evaded the system or had such a lack of integrity they would be dishonorably discharged from my platoon. No more crying. God Bless America.

As much as high school kids think they know, they wouldn’t know about the great Vegas Memorial Day pool parties. Thus, MIG would have to be an adult.

TML I want u 2 come 2 Vegas w me. Andrew, I get enough attention from Pat 2 make up 4 my poor up-bringing.
Patrick, your RAG is a joke. 2 even try and do an all WNY team is an insult 2 Keith. At least CC has some credibility 2 do 1. This blog I would bet, gets more hits than your RAG.
Patrick at least admit your ‘all star’ team was a total joke. Admit until I busted your chops u were going 2 name Connor your player of the year when he didn’t even make 1st team. U missed like half of the ONLY All WNY team that matters. Half! U r supposed 2 b a ‘reporter’ and u missed HALF?
MY sources tell me u r not an attractive man, and that u couldn’t get in any of the pool parties me, TML, CC, and Jack will b going 2 in Vegas. Also being told I am not acting like an adult by u? Seriously what makes u think I care? WHO CARES if some1 on a BLOG made up a rumor? And, um ya, about a HS kid cause – memo – this is a HS BASKETBALL blog jack***
PS – ALL of u except Pat r invited 2 Vegas. Get the info from CC – Mandalay Bay! Jack – I want 2 c u show up and wear speedo’s.

Your sources are wrong…….. I’m pleasant to look at

  9. Patrick Moran Avatar

For the record, know it all, CC and myself are good friends and speak regularly throughout the season and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what he does with HS boy’s basketball and quite obviously, am a huge fan of his blog.
Frankly, I wish more guys (or girls) would have HS blogs dedicated to a specific sport, as it’s physically impossible for Keith and a newspaper in a one-paper town to cover everything all the time (hint to TML1000 among others).
Also for the record, your assumptions and statements get more mind-bogging by the day. First of all, CenterCourt’s blog is dedicated to high school boy’s basketball, while Buffalo Sports Daily is dedicated to Buffalo sports. To compare the two is silly. And to say this blog gets more “hits” than my website is even more ludicrous. CC will tell you himself first hand that’s not the case, and it’s not even in the same vicinity of the ballpark either. We get thousands of visitor each week just from Buffalo Bills coverage alone.
High school basketball is something I covered this year and enjoyed it immensely, but just a small part of what BSD covers. And if it’s such a “Rag” (which I didn’t know online only publications could serve as rags) and you respect CC so much, then why is he a contributing writer for Buffalo Sports Daily? Did you even know that CC has written columns and reported on games that have been featured on BSD?
As far as my All-BSD team, and CC’s All-WNY team, one of the few people that are even trying to insinuate we think either is as big or as official as the Buffalo News is yourself. It’s not exactly a secret that Keith’s team reaches everyone, perhaps because he’s the reporter for the city’s mainstream newspaper. All the credit to Keith, he’s a fantastic reporter and an all around nice, accommodating guy, but I think he’d be the first to publicly state he doesn’t think by any mean he’s the sole voice of authority in the world of WNY high school sports.
If that’s the case, why do you spend so much time on this particular blog?
You may not appreciate anything I do in terms of coverage or anything else, and that’s fine and you’re not the only one I’m sure. But what I take pride in, and you clearly have no idea, is how many players and coaches have emailed, called, etc offering support for BSD and thanking us for the extra coverage they get now.
The only thing that damages blogs like this and anything else for that matter, is people like yourself that literally spread lies, pass them off as “rumors” and then actually openly admitting to fabricating them for the purpose of attention and conversation. Not everyone takes me serious and that’s just the way it is, but at the very least when I fish or print a story, it’s based on actual real sources and not the phony sources you cited time and time again until you were probably blue in the face.
My coverage at BSD will expand for HS sports in general as I’m actively looking for contributing writers and meanwhile, I really hope other people take the initiative to create more high school sports blogs. I’d love to see one dedicated to football, baseball and even sports like lacrosse. Maybe you can butcher those comment sections to with your ‘sourced rumors’and obsessions over a sports writer and best bud forever trips to Las Vegas.

I love the M.I.G. vs Patrick Moran feud.
Pat, I think it is great you provide a news source besides the paper for High School sports. I am not a regular reader because I don’t have interest in reading more about the Bills and Sabres which are a majority of your articles. I have said for years that the Buffalo News should have a bigger high school section on a daily basis. This is by no means the fault of Keith McShea. He is only one man. The News doesn’t put enough resources into high school sports, in my opinion.
However this is a blog where people should be free to express their opinions and even start some rumors. Rumors get converstions going. So don’t get mad at M.I.G., he is just making things interesting.

    Wayne,
While I agree that rumors are juicy to discuss and often bring solid convo in the comments section, don’t you think someone, at least if they want to a shred of credibility, should say that what they are saying is a rumor, or speculation. As opposed to insisting that you “have sources and it could really happen”?

I have one question it is probably silly but do kids get athletic/academic scholarships to the catholics? Is it need based? if so. If kids like Reggie and his cousin can go for nothing why wouldnt they? Do some give aid and some not? I know Nichols is proclaiming the top FR class and they are from all over. Not an argument just a discussion please

  16. jackherlan Avatar
    jackherlan

We give no athletic aid whatsoever, there are academic scholarships given based on the entrance exam that is available to all students. I believe there is other need-based financial aid that is given and some other scholarships that are given out but I am not well versed in those(sorry). I cannot speak to the other schools and what there policies are, although i do believe that Nichols may give some athletic scholarships.

Pat I don’t think u understand. I DON’T CARE if u think I have any credibility. So if Taplin transfers 2 a catholic school – Joe’s OR Canisius, will u agree 2 never post here again? Sort of like a ‘loser leaves town’ match from the old WWF? U have put your credibility on the line by saying there is NO WAY it was happening. Correct? So if it does happen u have no credibility!
THANK u Wayne 4 c’ing this blog 4 what it is 4 – FUN! Getting u upset Pat simply is fun 4 me. I don’t know any other way 2 say it.

Pat you seem like a nice guy and maybe I am old school but unless you write for a newspaper, saying you are a ‘sports writer’ is a bit of a stretch. Nichols does offer some scholarships where one aspect of the requirements is that the applicant participate in at least 2 sports. But every student must pass a very difficult exam in order to qualify for entrance to the school. Many very talented athletes have taken this exam and not been admitted.

Surprised it took so long for things to get silly on CC’s blog. For most of the year it has been free of a lot of the BS that marred the Prep Talk blog. Not surprising a lot of the junk has come out near the end of the year with All WNY bringing out most of the silliness.
Jack I’m surprised you’d speculate about what another school’s policies when you don’t even know what St Joe’s does especially since you’ve been a coach there for years, have had sons who attended the school and in this thread had to quash speculation, innuendo and rumors about St. Joe’s and what it does. I would think you’d be far more judicious before carelessly suggesting that you may know what the policies of another school are.
There will always be people who post things that they believe are true, hope to be true or simply want to be true even though baseless because of their bias. Coaches have a lot to add and I wish we heard more from them. However, I believe coaches have a greater responsibility to be accurate in their posting when it comes to the topics discussed here.
As for Nichols, all I can say is that my wife and I were very much involved with the school for a decade, my wife still is, and I am not aware of a single athletic scholarship that was awarded. I don’t believe they have any so called “academic” scholarships either. The available scholarships are based on need and on the amount of annual donations made by people who believe that a Nichols education should be available even to those who cannot afford the tuition. Once the available money available has been committed, usually early February, no further grants are available.
I am convinced Nichols offers the best education by far in WNY based on the experience of our family. The school is small. Class rooms have 15 or fewer students. Every teacher cares about his or her students. They are available routinely to provide extra help before, during or after school. It is a caring community. It is diverse.
There are blue blood families from some of Buffalo’s finest families. And there are many more families from the opposite end of the spectrum. Never once did we feel inferior, less than equal or superior to anyone at the school. In fact some of the nicest and most genuine people were the most well to do.
I think my oldest daughter’s experience demonstrates the value of a Nichols education best. She transferred in as a 7th grader. She went to a different school prior to Nichols where a few of her teachers thought she was no better than an average student and didn’t have the time, talent or desire to help her along. She struggled initially at Nichols with the increased demands in expectations and work load. But through the graces of and blessings of Mrs. Howe, who took the time after class to help my daughter figure out how to study, what teachers were looking for and how to produce quality work) and many other teachers throughout her years at Nichols, my daughter became an honors student every marking period from 8th grade on until her graduation. She then went onto college graduating with a triple major, a 3.6 GPA, earning numerous academic honors and being admitted to several academic societies while playing division 1 basketball and all that entails. Thanks to Nichols she developed a love for learning and became a voracious reader. She always had it in her, but it took the tremendous teachers and environment that Nichols provides to unlock and release all that potential. She can even thank Nichols for a big assist in landing her first job. In a terrible economy she found an excellent job, where she is killing it, in NYC through her love of learning. She attended numerous continuing education courses after graduation and through good fortune met someone from Barclays who hand walked her resume to personnel which lead to an interview and then a job offer. It’s a great success story and one I obviously am very proud to share. But it’s more than that;it shows the value of an education and what can be achieved through dogged determination and hard work.

Hoopster I dont think this is BS as much as informational and thanks for your personal stuff that is great. I was wondering if kids that cannot afford the privates get a fair shot or do athletics come into play as far as financial aid. I am sure we have plenty of deserving kids in our area that would love to attend a private school but cant afford it and wondered if kids from out of area were taking opportunities away from our kids in wny. what happens if a kid transfers in after 9th grade is there a exam or does their GPA come into play? again you and jack are providing information not BS

I stand corrected on the policies of Nichols school. However, I just said I wasn’t “well versed” on some of the additional monies that were available. I was deliberately trying to not say something I wasn’t sure of concerning St. Joes. I also had only one son that attended Joes and we got $0 for anything, so it never came up.

Reggie Agbeko (St. Joes), Jordan WIlliams and Kyle Kobis (Timon), Jake Denz (St. Mary’s) and Jamaal Carter (Hutch Tech) are the kids on the team that I know of.

  33. GUEST Avatar

Upstate Elite did have Agbeko and Paige in its starting 5 over the weekend; They lost first 2 games by a combined 19 points due to never having practiced or playing together. They won third game with Agbeko and Paige leading the way. Coaches in attendance were pretty impressed with the Agbeko, Paige and 6’10” kid from Rochester Bishop Kearney. Upstate Elite was missing Jamesville-Dewitt’s 6’10” Dajuan Coleman who is third member of starting frontcourt featuring Coleman, Agbeko and Chinoso from Kearney.

  34. GUEST Avatar
    GUEST

Upstate has a talented team but will need better guard play in order to beat the top level AAU teams they faced over the weekend. Paige and Dajon Streeter dribbling life out of the ball and then settling for 3s while being defended by 6’5″ guards will not work. Agbeko and 6’10” kid played very well against teams with frontlines averaging 6’10”.

  35. Patrick Moran Avatar

Yeah, Reggie is playing on at least two AAU teams, so is Jaysean Im’ told.
Reggie (not Paige) played with the Dragons in Pittsburgh tourney two weeks ago as well. They won their first three games and then lost in the semi’s, I believe in overtime. I know that Jordan Williams led them in scoring in 2 straight games, and then he and Jamaal Carter from Tech got ejected in the semi-final game late.

Division 1 coaches can’t be out until July. Division 3 coaches can go out any time. D 2’s are more restricted than 3’s and less than 1’s. Don’t think 2’s are allowed out until June sometime.

Agreed with Sal. It is better for athletes to actually play at D3 rather than going prep school and than maybe going to a D1 but not really playing or having a great 4 years. People don’t realize the high level of D2 and D3 basketball. The best players in D2 and D3 could easily play at the lower level D1s.
Hobart is a terrific school that has a great basketball program. Turning into one of the better programs in the east region. A great school for those who want to get a quality education and play on a high caliber team.

  48. Division 1 Avatar
    Division 1

Salpal and Team have good points but I think you guys missed the point of what prep school is all about; Prep school for many; especially an area like western new york which is not a hot bet for basketball enables a kid to round out his or her game like they were not able to do at a normal high school or to be seen. There are quite a few kids most years in western new york that can play at division 1 levels but because majority of high school teams locally do not play kids at the position that they would be competing at in college and d1s and d2s want to be certain how a kid will compete at that level due to financial commitments they are making. Ex: How many kids at 6’0″ to 6’5″ are playing in the post? Or specifically Paige from Jamestown; I am sure many d1s have heard or seen him play and are impressed with his athleticism but his guard skills are far behind because he has been playing the 3 spot when he should be playing the 1 or 2 spot. So should he settle for playing d3? I think not. He goes where he can maximize his potential. WNY teams also generally don’t go that far so kids don’t get print and no one really knows they are there. Additionally, local d1s don’t seem to recruit very hard for local kids so i say for those of us that took prep school route and ended up playing at big schools and contributing, keep doing what you are doing, don’t settle for the easy way out by playing against lesser players.
