Six straight home wins against Newfane. There must be something in the water. How else do you explain the way Wilson shows up to play when the Panthers visit?
On the same day that Newfane debuts in the small school poll for its attention-grabbing Williamsville Holiday Tournament championship, Wilson delivered the Panthers a message in no uncertain terms: we're not impressed.
Wilson dominated Newfane right from the opening tip and turned a heated rivalry into a 32-minute party for the home faithful. The Lakemen never trailed and outscored Newfane in all four quarters, en route to a 57-36 win.
Newfane never seemed to settle in to the rivalry atomosphere and looked uncharacteristically tentative. Wilson was anything but tentative, and took the role of aggressor on both ends of the court.
After a promising 3-0 start, the Panthers fall to 4-2, with a 1-2 mark in the N-O. Wilson is in sole posssesion of first place in the N-O at 3-0, and improves to 5-2 overall.
With its most recent win, Wilson has now taken six of the last seven, and nine of the last 11 from the Panthers. It was the first time since 2006 that this rivalry has seen a margin of victory exceed 20 points.
Tyler Martin led Wilson with a game-high 15 points, while Dustin DiLaura and Pat Diez each finished with 11 points. Junior Matt Baker came off the bench and scored all eight of his points in the third quarter and Pat Walch also netted eight points in the win.
Sean Seefeldt scored 10 points in the loss and Bryan Geise added nine points.
