NYSSWA State Rankings – Week 12

Nysswa

The twelfth state rankings of the season have been released by the NYSSWA.  Below are the WNY teams that made the cut:

Class AA

Jamestown #17

Class A

Canisius #5

McKinley #7

Amherst #12

Williamsville South #14

Class B

Park #9

Fredonia #11

Cleveland Hill #19

 Class C

Middle College #5

Silver Creek #6

Tapestry #11

 Randolph 25

Class D

Sherman #2

I-Prep #11

Panama 14

 ** According to the rankings…

–  I've spent the last few weeks making snarky comments in this space about Webster Schroeder being ranked ahead of Jamestown in Class AA.  I will no longer have to do that this year, because Webster Schroeder , ranked #18 in Class AA last week, went out in the quarterfinals to Irondequoit on Saturday night.   And Jamestown is now ranked #17.  So I was right.

– Aquinas will advance to Glens Falls with a 22-0 record after beating Jamestown in the regionals.

– Cleveland Hill will beat East tonight.  The Golden Eagles moved up five spots in Class B, from #24 to #19, for hanging on to beat CSAT.

– Some matchups to look forward to, according to the rankings

Sherman vs. I-Prep in the Class D Final

Middle College vs. Silver Creek in the class C crossover

Amherst vs. Will South in the Class A crossover

Park vs. Westhill in the Class B Federeation Championship

Canisius vs. Kennedy Catholic for the CHSAA state championship

In Class C Section V action last night, I noticed that two #1 seeds lost. Previously unbeaten Naples (ranked #2 in the state for what it’s worth) lost to RCMCS by 6 points. Naples did beat Rochester Early College (#8 in state) back in December as well so there is some merit to their undefeated record. Mynderse (ranked #14 in state) lost to East Rochester by 10 points. Anyone know if indeed these are actual “upsets”?
