In 1980, The United States national team needed a "miracle on ice" to defeat the Soviet Union national team during the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.  When you look at the talent that Niagara Falls coach Sal Constantino is bringing in to the country from Canada to play in the first 'Battle at the Border' hosted by Niagara Falls High School, their opponents from this area of New York may need a miracle on the hardwood to pull out a victory at the event.  If you're a fan of high level high school basketball, or if you want to see some guys play in person before seeing them on your TV playing at the Division I level, then you won't want to miss this event coming up on Saturday, February 6th.

Below is the three-game schedule:

Saturday, February 6, 2016

Timon (11-7) vs. Sir Allan MacNab (25-9)  -  3 pm

– Sir Allan MacNab from Hamilton has one of Canada's top freshmen in the 6-6 Tre Edwards.

– Timon enters the game as one of the hottest teams in WNY, winning 7 of its last 10 games.  The Tigers are a deep and balanced team that has been a top 10 WNY large school all season, led by senior Quinton Lamar & junior Davion Warren.

Aquinas (16-2) vs. Vaughan (27-2)  -  4:30 pm

– Vaughan is led by sophomore Andrew Nembhard, a high level Division I prospect who has received interest from such schools as Michigan, Syracuse, & Duke. He will transfer to 2015 HS National Champion Montverde Academy next season, where he will replace WNY native and former Canisius Crusader, Howard Washington (2014 Second Team All-Centercourt) at point guard as he moves onto Butler.  Vaughan also boasts Oshane Taylor Douglas,  who is getting MAAC level interest. Vaughan is currently ranked #1 in Canada.  Vaughan's only losses were to Father Henry Carr.

– Aquinas enters the game on Saturday as the #8 ranked team in NYS Class AA.  The Lil Irish are led by senior point guard Earnest Edwards, who is averaging 16.3 points per game and has signed to play football at Maine in the fall of 2016.  Aquinas also has three other players who average double figure scoring in Jalen Pickett, David Vito, & Jason Hawkes.  Jamir Jones, who will play football at Notre Dame in the fall of 2016, gives the Lil Irish a strong presence inside.  Aquinas' only losses this season came at the hands of Canisius, the defending NYS Federation Champion who is ranked #2 in NYS Class A.

Niagara Falls (12-5) vs. Father Henry Carr (25-1)  -  6 pm

– Father Henry Carr  is led by 6-7 inside/outside threat, Shamar Bailey, who will attend JUCO next year, but is projected as a mid major Division I recruit.  The team also has four other Division I prospects in Shae Brown (interest from Binghamton & Vermont), Mychael Paulo (interest from Columbia), and John Akende (interest from Niagara).  Father Henry Carr's only loss this season was to Vaugha.

– Niagara Falls is led by senior Breon Harris, who is one of WNY's very best defenders.  Junior point guard Qeyion Williams has enjoyed his best varsity season and has come through in some key spots for the Wolverines this season.  Sophomore Syquan Ralands is an aggressive inside player for Falls with a high motor.  The Wolverines have been a top 10 large school in WNY all season and just clinched the division title in the NFL.
