Noah Thomason 2nd team ECIC? He Scored a little but didn’t show in big games. Don’t understand that one, should’ve gave it to someone else.

I feel that everyone, namely the people who are granted the privilege, from CC, to be able to comment in this forum, should refrain from negative comments that also name any KID in doing so.
The players all read this website, and they are just KIDS.
    Keep it positive
I have never seen Noah play, but obviously if CC named him—he deserves the recognition.
So… congratulations, Noah! Keep shooting and have some fun!

I do not believe Centercourt named the teams . These are the actual all League teams voted on by the coaches of the respective leagues. I would think they would know more than you John.

Shouldn’t the Charter School POY come from the Charter Cup Champion Health Science Falcons? They went undefeated in the league and wrapped up the league title in January. Too much politics. Jaylen Prophet, Gaines and Lott dominated that league. Great season guys

The all league teams are picked and voted on by each coach in each respective league…coaches who see the game and every team from a coaches perspective. By having each coach voting, it allows for little bias. Another reason these teams are also important is these coaches see every team multiple times and study film and game plan, whereas parents watch their son’s team all season, and may catch a team that has a very good player once, maybe twice, and that player may have a rare off night or could have limited minutes due to foul trouble…illness, many variables. Many parents are not emotionally qualified to judge children athletically. So for anyone who wants to hammer these kids performances…now you know how the process works so you can try and make a logical statement.

For what it’s worth, if I did pick these teams, which I did not, I would have placed Noah Thompson on 2nd Team All-ECIC as well.

Did some media for East Aurora and from my table at half court that Coach Koselny set up for me I saw a great shooter and all around player in Noah Thompson. He easily deserved his place on second team All ECIC..GREAT PLAYER AND KID..

Hey these are great picks CenterCourt. You always did a tremendous job with picking these and it don’t stop now. To many good players to be arguing over, they should be content with being on this list and if they are not they should use this as motivation. Coming from Lovell Smith, I say it’s a honor to be on one of these teams!!!

I would have gone with Justin Jones over Will Atkinson for Canisius for All-Catholic. I have Jones in my top 25 for all of WNY.
Also, my time in seeing Panama was limited to their sectional, regional and state semi-final game but I thought Chris Blose was their best all around player. Surprised to see him on second team and not first.

So, MMA Class B didn’t award a Player of the Year. The coaches voted for Takal Molson, from St Mary’s – but he got into some off court trouble, so they revoked that and just didn’t award POY to anyone? Walsh won the regular season MMA Class B title (beat St Mary’s twice), and Tavien Kemp SHOULD have earned POY honors. Majority of teams in MMA put a box and one on him, and he still averaged 20+. Also, Marcellus Cooper, from Nichols, was not named to All Catholic??? MMA Class B coaches should be ashamed

There we go again—naming a 17 year old kid–who everyone–btw–, the players, coaches, parents, and numerous college coaches— who watch each CHS game, believes is one of the best shooters in WNY, and is the Co-Captain of that team with Stafford Trueheart. There are numerous reasons the reigning Coach of the Year did that.
CHS just wins. The players are there to win. Not “look at me” attitudes. Not one player, who ever has played w/ Atkinson, would not want to be his teammate again. Not one. And we are talking about numerous top 25 players this year who have played w/ Will and The WNY Braves.
Atkinson just wins. Period. He is unselfish to a fault. Atkinson has steadied the ship for Kyle all year. He has poise and is calm in the storm. They are on the brink of history—you don’t do that without Jones, Atkinson and Madut Ayiy.
Yes–no doubt—Justin Jones is top 25 in WNY—no doubt—but so are Atkinson and Ayiy—
All four are–Staff is POY—but if Staff got injured one minute into the game tomorrow–CHS would not fear that they could not win. They would adjust and get it done–for Staff.
So…think about it…in theory—if you took the best player in WNY off the squad—CHS would still beat just about everyone—so how could you say that the other three there are not Top 25?
For anyone to suggest that Staff is their only top 25 player—yet they are ranked #1 in NYS–is not a sound objective assessment of their outstanding and historic team. I believe that Staff would be the first one to echo these thoughts.
Jones, Atkinson and Ayiy are all top 25—put any of them on a marginal public school team—and that team is significantly better–and they are the star.
–I would expect higher ground from a venerable veteran who knows his game very well——OK to say Justin is Top 25–HE IS-I 100% AGREE–but not kosher to say anything negative about any KIDS. If you want to champion a player–by all means do so–but don’t compare that player mentioning other players.
Trueheart, Jones, Ayiy and Atkinson are all Top 25.
And when/if they win both games this weekend–that team will be able to make a case that they are the greatest high school team, ever, to take the floor in WNY.

Hey Inotalent – Please point out anywhere in my 2 sentences about Justin Jones and Will Atkinson that was negative. Please. Work on your reading comprehension.
Also, did I state that Atkinson WASN’T in my top 25? I stated that Justin Jones was in my top 25 in WNY and that my personal opinion would have been to have Jones in for All Catholic over Atkinson. From the looks of it, there were only 6 available slots for the Class A All Catholic (excluding the POY selection).
I’m assuming that there could only be a limited number of players from a certain team to make All Catholics, otherwise there would have been at least one more player from Canisius here. Personally, this is how I would have selected the Class A All Catholics:
    POY – Trueheart – Canisius
    Nwora – Park
    Harris – Park
    Q. Lamar – Timon
    Jackson – St. Joe’s
    Jones – Canisius
    Atkinson – Canisius
So hopefully that calms you down a bit.
Now to get you all riled up again:
“So…think about it…in theory—if you took the best player in WNY off the squad—CHS would still beat just about everyone—so how could you say that the other three there are not Top 25?”
Well, they did lose to Greece Athena…by double digits…and Stafford was playing that game. So I’m not sure I get your logic here.
“For anyone to suggest that Staff is their only top 25 player—yet they are ranked #1 in NYS–is not a sound objective assessment of their outstanding and historic team. I believe that Staff would be the first one to echo these thoughts.”
Not sure if anyone on this blog suggested that Stafford was their only top 25 player. I definitely didn’t.
“Jones, Atkinson and Ayiy are all top 25—put any of them on a marginal public school team—and that team is significantly better–and they are the star.”
Yeah…and if your aunt had balls she’d be your uncle.
“OK to say Justin is Top 25–HE IS-I 100% AGREE–but not kosher to say anything negative about any KIDS. If you want to champion a player–by all means do so–but don’t compare that player mentioning other players.”
Again, what did I say that was negative? This is a high school blog meant for the debating of players against other players. That’s what the naming of the All WNY Selections are. It’s a comparison of players against other players.
“And when/if they win both games this weekend–that team will be able to make a case that they are the greatest high school team, ever, to take the floor in WNY.”
I can’t let this one slide. How about the Nichols teams winning back to back Federation titles in the 80s? The Tim Winn LaSalle teams of the 90s? The Rowe-Foster Traditional teams of the 90s? The back to back to back State Title Traditional teams? The 2010 Nichols team that were Class A Federation Champions (beating a dominate Jamesville-Dewitt team)? I would even prefer last years Canisius team over this years team. And I don’t care what anyone says, the ’05 Niagara Falls team that won the Class AA Federation title and you know, finished the season ranked #3 in the country according to USA Today.

    Inotalent & Statechamp,
“Jones, Atkinson and Ayiy are all top 25—put any of them on a marginal public school team—and that team is significantly better–and they are the star.”
    About this statement,
Do you think these players would have as good of a season if you put them on marginal public schools? Not saying they arent good players because all of them would made a team better, but it would also hurt them as a player. Public schools don’t always have the luxury of having 5-7 basketball players. A lot of the time they just have athletes who play basketball. Guys who can defend but aren’t much of an offensive threat.
Two players who impressed me the most this season were Dom Welch of Cheektowaga and Jernard Jackson of Lewiston-Porter. They both were constantly getting double teamed, shadowed by a second defender, box and 1. For them to be able to do what they did this season was very impressive.
It is hard to run those defenses against Canisius because you double someone, box and 1, or shadow them w a second defender your leaving someone open who can score.
So for you to say they would make any marginal public school better is a true statement, but I also think it makes there game suffer as well.
    Just a thought…..

Jordan Nwora was a first team selection the previous season and very rarely does a player get demoted to a lesser team the following season. He and Trueheart are shoe-ins for first team this year. The only player I see this happening to is Takal Molson for St. Mary’s for obvious reasons.

  18. All star Avatar
    All star

Catholic All Stars are not correct. Marcellus Cooper is the League MVP class B and is first team class B. How is he overlooked? Next year he is player of the year in all of MMA. His team should repeat next year as well.

  19. B. Stevens Avatar
    B. Stevens

Jordan Nwora is a great player, and I only saw Park play 4 times this year. He may very well be a first team player but based off what I saw he was not one of the top 5 this year. Based on his size and position shooting I think he is top 2 for potential in the future behind Welch.
Welch has the potential to dominate every game IF he wants to….

  20. StateChamps2003 Avatar
    StateChamps2003

Welch won’t make 1st team this year. He’s definitely 1st team talent but the Buffalo News puts a lot of weight on the teams success when making their selections. And unfortunately, Cheektowaga just didn’t have a great year, even losing in the quarterfinals to Maryvale in Sectionals. That, coupled with the success of teams like Canisius, Will South, Olean and MEC, will likely leave him off of the News’ first team. Even Park had a good year. They just had to play against the best team in the State in Class ‘A’ three times.

  21. B. Stevens Avatar
    B. Stevens

Yes I think the buffalo news puts too much emphasis on team success when it comes to picking All-WNY team. It should be based on the best players not the best teams. All-WNY is a individual accolade and I think Welch and Jackson are both deserving of that recognition even though their teams may not have won the section.
Both facing constant double teams and averaged between 25-30 ppg I believe. You put ether one of these two players on any team in WNY and they are starting and the team is better.
Being some of the top players in WNY shouldn’t go unnoticed because your team isn’t as talented as other teams.
    ALL-WNY= Individual Accolade
    State Championship/team rankings= Team Accolade

Has anybody been paying attention to the kid Brandon Roach from Olmsted? Like Jackson and Welch, the kid has been playing against double teams and box and 1 defenses all year and is averaging 25+ points per game. Really been flying under the radar and deserves at least All-WNY third team in my opinion.

  23. B Stevens Avatar
    B Stevens

Yes I have seen Roach play a few times this year and was impressed with him. He could very well make a All-WNY team and it would not shock me in the least. I believe he was the first 1,000 point scorer in his schools history.

Stafford Truehart deserves poy but you cannot look at takal molson not up there. Also buffalo schools get no love health science had a great season behind a new coach this year aswell as south park. Numbers do not lie but some of the first teams and all that that were voted in I see do
