CSAT 75, Maritime 64

The Eagles took the lead with a 10-0 in the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the way, despite a scrappy comeback effort by Maritime. CSAT led by as many as 22 points in earning a solid nonleague win and some charter bragging rights along the way.  Jayden Gulledge led four Eagles in double figures with a game-high 20 points in the win.  James Tyes was tough on the glass and added 14 points for CSAT.  Ke'Sean Weston led Maritime with 18 points.

CSAT         18 – 18 – 20 – 19 = 75

Maritime  10 – 15 -  9 – 30 = 64

Coaches Quotes
Camilo Hoyos – CSAT
On the defensive game plan
We wanted to come out and put some pressure on them.  We threw a bunch of different defenses at them to slow them down.
On how Maritime got back into the game
I think we just got complacent there.  We saw we had a 20-point lead and I think my guys thought we already won the game.  We all know that in four quarters of basketball you have to play 32 minutes.  It's not going to work if you don't.
On who stepped up for the Eagles
I thought Deshawn Williams really stepped up today.  Our guy who would normally start wasn't here today and he played really well.  They are really big and James Tyes was fighting for every rebound, and Jayden Gulledge played really good for us tonight and sealed it at the end.
On playing a fellow charter school
It was nice for both of us to play each other and I think it's good to get the charter schools a better rep and both of us are on the cusp of doing that.  Our guys were excited, we don't get a chance to play a lot of charter schools.  We played Tapestry and lost in overtime, so this one meant a lot.

Random Smatterings

– CSAT is the only small school playing in the NFL.  I think people forget that they're a Class B1 team in sectionals.  They haven't cracked the small school top ten yet, but an overtime loss to Tapestry should tell you just how close they are to being in.

– Eagles' senior Jayden Gulledge is a team captain and played like it last night.  He led his team in second half scoring and sealed the win by swishing four free throw attempts in the final minute.

– CSAT is a very balanced team.  They were down a starter last night and you wouldn't have known it.  Besides Gulledge, double figures were scored by James Tyes, Daighlyon Willoughby, and Devin Ashley (who is one mellow dude on the court).  All of them have game.  Deshawn Williams was one point shy of a fifth Eagle reaching double digits.

– I though Ray Rich played really well throughout and scored eight of his 15 points during the fourth quarter comeback attempt by Maritime.  Ke'Sean Weston repeatedly got to the basket and scored 10 of his team-high 18 points in the last five minutes of the game.

– Maritime sophomore John Blevins played harder than anyone else on the floor every minute he was out there.

– Don't be surprised to see both of these teams arrive at Buff State late in February.  It would be the first time in program history for the Commodores if it happens.
