******** According to the rankings above……..
– McQuaid's loss to Canisius caused them to slip a few spots back in NYS Class AA. A few days later, Niagara Falls made the same road trip to McQuaid and came up short in overtime, so the Wolverines now sit at #14 in NYS Class AA.
– The state rankings do not honor results after noon on Sundays. My guess is St. Francis stays ahead of Canisius for that reason. Frannies lost on the road against Holy Trinity, who is unranked in NYS Class A, over the weekend.
– The Crusaders jump up seven spots in NYS Class A to #11 thanks to their road win at McQuaid.
– Lew-Port moved up one spot in NYS Class A to #20, the only ranked public school from Section VI in their classification. Not bad for a school starting an eighth grader and a freshman.
– Olean and Cardinal O'Hara both climb one spot in NYS Class B, to #2 and #4 respectively. On Wednesday night, there's a big NYS game played in Tonawanda when Canisius visits O'Hara.
– O'Hara's main competition for the Class B Manhattan Cup, the Nichols Vikings, are now up for spots in NYS Class B to #14.
– Allegany-Limestone is the only local team from Class B2 in the state rankings. The Gators moved up two spots to #23.
– In NYS Class C, even though Randolph sits out #4, the loss at Tapestry (#10) last night will certainly change that by next week.
– Middle College remains ranked #2 in the state in NYS Class C. Another big game in NYS is coming this Friday night when the Kats host O'Hara.
– My how the mighty have fallen. We no longer have any teams ranked in NYS Class D, but man last year was sure fun. The top ranked team is Harrisville, who East annihilated in the state semifinal last year. Following that game their coach had a bitter quote about East, so I doubt the universe allows them to break through and want to state championship this year.
– Last thing, why do the state rankings refer to every team in the vicinity of the city as "Buffalo"?? Like Buffalo Health Sciences for example? Or Buffalo South Park? Buffalo Timon? Buffalo City Honors? Buffalo Park School? Buffalo Canisius? This is a serious question – could there be that many Health Sciences & City Honors in the state? I don't notice another area or section that has a city dropped in front of every school name for distinction. I'm not down with it. Trust me, the rest of the state knows Park & Canisius hail from Buffalo!
