The ninth state rankings for the 2022 the season have been released by the NYSSWA.  Below are the WNY teams that made the cut:

Class AA

Jamestown #17

Class A

Canisius #10

Amherst #18

Class B

Olean #4

Timon #15

St. Mary's #23

Class C

Randolph #6

Class D

Westfield #4

Clymer #9

Pine Valley #17

According to the rankings…

– No one checked the Canisius results when ranking the teams in NYS Class AA.  Jamestown sits one spot ahead of Aquinas at #17.  The Red Raiders lost to Canisius by double figures, while Aquinas defeated Canisius twice this season, once on Delaware Avenue.  Apparently all small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, as the rankings see Victor heading past both of them on the way to states this year.

– Chaminade will win a CHSAA Class A state championship, but will need to travel to Buffalo and win at Canisius before hand.  They are currently ranked #4 in the state, while Canisius sits at #10.

– East High of Rochester defeated Health Sciences at the Centercourt Classic.  Amherst is projected to do the same in the upcoming postseason, as the Tigers are ranked one spot behind East High and NYS Class A at #18.

– The only public school from here to Syracuse ranked in NYS class B is the Olean Huskies.

– Despite slipping to #15 in NYS Class B, Timon is still the team to beat for a CHSAA state championship.  Unless of course, they reach the Manhattan Cup Final, which would take them out of contention and send a knockout tournament winner as the best representative for a Class B state championship push.

– Lyons will defeat Oakfield-Alabama in Section V to reach the Far West Regional against Randolph at Buff State, where they are projected to beat the Cardinals also.

– Avoca-Prattsburgh win’s the class D state championship going away.  On Wednesday night, they defeated Lyons, who entered the game as the #1 ranked team in NYS Class C.  Currently there could only be two teams in all of Class C better than A-P, according to the rankings, as Lyons is now at #3.  I actually made the trip out and had the pleasure of watching that game and will attest that in my opinion, Avoca-Prattsburgh has all the makings of a state champion.   Crown Point will need both a backslash & a hyphen, along with some Wheaties.

I’d say definitely way too early to start talking All-Centercourt Teams, lots of basketball and the most important part of the season left to play
