Large Schools

1. Timon (AA) – A 30-point victory over a Niagara Falls Team that already boasts a win over last season's defending state champion.  Nakyhi Harris drops a game-high 36 in the win.  These guys are absolutely the top dogs in WNY.

2. Health Sciences (AA2) – A busy December for the Falcons begins with three games this week against Bennett, at South Park, and at St Joes for a big one on Friday night.

3. Canisius (AA) – After fielding questions about who the team even had back to justify such a high preseason ranking, these guys come out and allow a grand total of 59 points in their first two games, a pair of double digit victories – one by over 70 points!

4. Niagara Falls (AAA) – I don’t think we should overreact to the loss at Timon as it pertains to how this team is viewed.  The Wolverines head to Nichols on Friday night.

5. St. Joe's (A) – We don’t know much about the two teams they lost to during a season opening trip to Pennsylvania, but we do know that they returned home to visit Williamsville East And buried them by 31 points.

6. Amherst (A1) – Showed off their balance, depth, and youth, in a hard-fought season opening victory in the 'Battle of Main Street' against Williamsville South.   They head to Clarence on Wednesday night and entertain Lockport at home on Friday

7. Nichols (AA) – A pair of early season losses to Section V powers are sandwiched between a big win at Williamsville North. Friday night's game against Niagara Falls will give us a great gauge of this team locally.

8. Jamestown (AA1) – Dropped their first game of the season in a quick turnaround Saturday afternoon game at Canisius, after three straight wins to begin the season that included an Olean Tip-off Tournament championship.  Jamestown is back in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon for a game at Park.

9. Park (A) – Pay attention to what is happening at The Park School.  The Pioneers have an ultra-talented freshmen class already riding a three-game win streak that includes victories over Clarence and Olmsted.  I love the schedule Rod Middleton put together this season as the competition just keeps coming this week with games against Lancaster, Orchard Park, and Jamestown.  Well done.

10. Lancaster (AAA) – The Legends have two consecutive victories to begin the season, including an impressive 'W' at Niagara Wheatfield Saturday afternoon.  Tuesday evening's game at Park sets up as a very intriguing matchup between a pair of coaches who know each other very well.

Small Schools

1. Randolph (C) – Cardinals’ Junior Drew Hind is the newest member of the 1,000 point club after the team tipped off the season with a victory over Hamburg.  Chautauqua Lake and Silver Creek visit Randolph this week.

2. Newfane (B1) – Bounced back from a difficult four-point load road loss at Niagara Wheatfield to lay a thumping on the Jacks in North Tonawanda.  The Panthers visit Maritime and host Emerson this week.

3. Middle College (B1) – After a pair of double figure wins to begin the season over MST Seneca, and Olmsted, the Kats failed to close out in the fourth quarter, and dropped their first game of the year in a three-point loss to Lockport.  They host I-Prep this week, and then head to Hutch Tech.

4. Salamanca (B2) – The Warriors scheduled five straight games against large schools from Class A and Class AA to begin the season and after dropping their season opener to Cheektowaga on Saturday, they face a huge test from a tough Williamsville South team coming in on Wednesday, before closing the week against Depew Saturday afternoon.

5. Panama (C) – The Panthers have 27 & 18 point victories, respectively, to open the season against Cassadaga Valley and Ellicottville.  Thursday evening, they host Westfield in a key early season league contest.

6. Fredonia (B1) – After a 35-point victory over West Seneca West to begin the season, the Hillbillies lost big against Lackawanna on Saturday, but played without the services of Davion White.  They are completely different team with him in the lineup as you may remember from last March at #BuffState.

7. Falconer (B2) – It’s the first appearance by the Golden Falcons in my small school rankings.  Ever.  But I’m placing a lot of respect on the season opening win for Falconer at Olean by 10 points.

8. Westfield (C) – Big game coming on Thursday night at Panama, coming off of a  victory at Olean.  Carson Swanson is averaging 33.5 points after two games this year against Jamestown and Olean.

9. Akron (B1) – The Tigers are most definitely built for the future, but I have this team on the clock right now.  A 2-0 start to a season in which I expect the wins to continue to pile up.  JFK and Albion are next.

10. Allegany-Limestone (B2) – Played at full strength on Saturday for the first time and earned a methodical victory over a sound East Aurora opponent.  Tuesday night they are at Pioneer, before hosting Wellsville on Thursday and Roy-Hart on Saturday.
