Random Smatterings 2026 – Week 4

– St. Mary’s won at Timon on Saturday afternoon, 67-64.  It was the first time since 2012 that the Lancers left South Buffalo with a victory and marked just the 2nd win for St. Mary’s in the last 23 meetings between the two teams.

– Eden sophomore Kobe Genco banged four triples in a 65-48 win over Silver Creek, pushing his career total to 200 made 3-pointers.

– Westfield’s Grant Beadle hung a career-high 32 points to go with 17 rebounds in a victory over Chautauqua Lake.

– Williamsville East freshman Brady Konst is shooting 48% from downtown on the season.  He has 29 made 3-pointers, the 2nd most by any player in WNY.

– Junior Derren Brooks has grabbed 21 rebounds twice this season in wins for Akron and is averaging 14.4 boards per outing.

– Panama’s Michael Horton dropped a career-high 40 points in a 63-50 victory over Pine Valley.

– Jude Gerbec scored a career-high 31 points in Holland’s win over Franklinville.

– Three Section VI teams have played 9 games through the first month of the season: Wilson, Barker, and Buffalo Science.  West Valley has seen the least amount of action, playing just 3 games so far.

– Harlem Brannon recorded 8 steals in Ken West’s 52-44 victory at Lockport.  It marked the 3rd time this season Brannon has earned 8 steals in a game. 

– Buffalo Science rolled up 106 points in a victory over Holland.  Their chances of eclipsing the century mark looked very favorable when they were sitting on 86 points after 3 quarters.

– Tapestry has both a deep and talented team, as evidenced by all 12 players entering the scorebook in the team’s 69–26 victory over Riverside.

– Derek Triplett grabbed 15 rebounds in Tapestry’s 71–64 win over Middle College.

– Amir Moye scored 33 of his career high 35 points through 3 quarters when Health Sciences picked up an 82-54 victory at St. Francis.

– Greydan Barnwell (Lew-Port) & Jerrell Nealy (Medina) have both recently eclipsed 1,000 career points scored.

– Tre Paulfrey scored 30 points for Nichols in the team’s 97-45 shellacking of Aquinas.

– DJ McClure scored 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in Cheektowaga’s 69–67 loss to Clarence.

– Ca’Marii Staples recorded 11 steals in McKinley’s 97–58 win over Burgard.

– Fredonia’s RJ Koopman scored 26 points and dished 6 assists in the team’s win at Clarence.  Koopman has 10 or more assists in 4 games already this season.

Jim Kramer Tournament – Champion: Nichols / MVP: Tre Paulfrey

– The Niagara-Orleans league has been as good as advertised in the preseason, with 3 teams still unbeaten on the year and all three ranked among the Top 10 small schools.  ECIC V has two unblemished squads, also both ranked small schools.

– The number of undefeated teams in WNY has dwindled to just 7:
Wilson, Fredonia, Akron, Tapestry, Medina, Orchard Park, & Global Concepts.

– There are still 10 teams without a victory in the 2026 season.
