The annual three-day challenge mainly comprised of teams from the ECIC and Monsignor Martin Athletic Association begins today at St. Mary's in Lancaster.  The ten game challenge features a headline game to close each night.  I go for the basketball, but I must say, there is no greater hospitality room for coaches, officials, and media at a high school event, than the one set up by St. Mary's Athletic Director and head coach, Dan Gill.

Here is the schedule of games:

Monday, December 13, 2010

Grand Island vs. Christian Central Academy – 4:00 pm

Holland vs. Archbishop Walsh – 5:30 pm

West Seneca East vs. Cardinal O'Hara – 7:00 pm

Clarence vs. St. Mary's – 8:30 pm

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Cheektowaga vs. Nichols – 5:00 pm

Amherst vs. Bishop Timon St. Jude – 6:30 pm

Sweet Home vs. Canisius – 8:00 pm

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Lancaster vs. St. Francis – 5:00 pm

JFK vs. Niagara Catholic – 6:30 pm

Lackawanna vs. St. Joe's – 8:00 pm

CC, or anyone else for that matter, how would you rank the games in order of interest. Gonna be out for some and since I can’t make them all, want to try and hit the best of the best.

The late games each night have the most appeal. I’m really anxious to see this year’s version of Timon and to see if Amherst can put together another solid performance like they did against Finney. All three games on Wednesday should be good. I’m hearing good things about JFK this year and want tto see how they handle the Patriots.

Not so fast RJ. What is going on with this Clarence team this year? They were predicted to challenge Jamestown and dominate other top ECIC I teams this season, and they can’t even beat unranked and small school teams. I can’t really imagine that it is a hang over from long post seasons in football and soccer, or is it just the lack of depth and experience within the program. Until last year Clarence had never really made much noise on the hardwood, is this lack of experience and depth hurting their start this year?

RJ always easy to boast about a team, player or outcome. Now that your prediction was wrong, hope you will give us your opinion who is over rated, if anyone. St. Mary’s? Clarence? In short, what happened? And more importantly what’s going on with Clarence? It’s early, but losses to Will East, Lancaster and St. Mary’s has raised a lot of questions.
