Jaysean Paige leaves Jamestown

After leading the Red Raiders to the New York State Class AA championship game last season and garnering WNY Player of the Year honors from both the Buffalo News and this site, Jaysean Paige has transferred out of Jamestown.  The 6-1 senior who dazzled fans last season with an array of 3-pointers, hanging jumpers, and monster dunks, is currently enrolled at Perry County Central High School located in Hazard, Kentucky.

Paige, who transferred to Jamestown prior to the start of his sophomore year, averaged 26.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game for the Red Raiders as a junior last season.  He also shot an incredible 58% from the field, while throwing down over 50 slams in 24 games.

According to reports, his eligibility to play basketball for the Perry County Central Commodores is pending an official decision from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

First of all let’s please start posting on the Al Pastor post. CC put it up there for a reason. Second why the Stan Weir hatred? I mean give him Player of the year right now as far as I am concerned.
Finally I am hearing the Falls coach Sal was involved with the Summer league coach that convinced Paige to leave for Kentucky. If that is true it’s a poor way back your way into an AA title that clearly Jamestown would have won with Paige back. I’m not suggesting cash was involved but he was backing the AAU coach trying to get him to leave town.
So when you win the AA title this year Sal don’t feel too proud of yourself for pushing Paige out the door and backing into the title. Sickening really.

I know Sal is very involved in high schools sports and AAU ball, and if that is true, it sounds like it should come under investigation by the NYSPHSAA. For not only to convince a kid to be “recruited” to Kentucky, but also once he gets there he might not be able to play after being ruled ineligible; could not only ruin his collegiate career but also the kid’s life. I’m not crying sour grapes just because I am a Jamestown fan, but because a kid like Jaysean come’s from a tough home life as it is and to uproot him for his Sr. year to go chase some Wild Cat hoop dream in Kentucky under false pretenses is a travesty to this poor teen.

I find it hard to believe that Drake would be unable to convince Paige that he was never going to play for Kentucky. I also wouldn’t start making acqusations without hearing from Sal.

I agree with TML, please don’t make accusations about coach constantino without proof. Sal and I talk on regular basis and I would be shocked if that were true. I have never known Sal to back down from a challenge or look for the easy way out

Pat M., you may be correct and I don’t personally know Sal so it doesnt matter to me, but I fnd it in poor taste without presentation of evidence for all of us to see on this forum before making such strong difinitive statements like that; just my opinion.

Everyone should relax because this is obviously just someone trying to stir things up. Some new name starting a stupid rumor and calling himself Pat M. At first I thought Pat Moran but that guy is another story. Then I figured out it probably meant Pat Monti. Either way just stupid blog rumor stuff. Credible stuff comes from credible names.

Who cares about Paige – lets talk about players who are here and have done what it takes to play for their school. Not to be negative but lets be real and give the kids who towed the line some credit and discuss them, realizing Paiges tough upbringing. Last Spring the news was that Paige would not be back anyways, not a surprise. What ever Sal did or did not do – WHO CARES !!!!

  10. From the front row Avatar

I could totally see this happening. Sal gets rid of Paige, Falls will now win the AA Title. If Paige stays, really good chance he doesn’t again.
Obvioulsy there is no way to prove it. Pat Moran usually knows his stuff, even though he can be a bit rude and talk down anyone who disagrees with him.
And Guilio I doubt is REALLY Guilio. I mean Sal basically forced Guilio out the door. I also don’t think Pat Monti reads this blog. No offense to CC but he lives in Naples from what I hear.
I mean really it’s a smart move for Sal. They for sure now will roll to the AA title.

Hey Pat M., where is any hatred for Stan Weir on display. Some may believe in the thought that he is over rated but by no means is that hatred.
As far as giving anyone POY before the season even starts, that is just foolishness. Let the season play out and the canidates will emerge based on their individual play and the teams success.
There are frontrunners, but don’t be suprised if a relative unknown or someone who was not a starter on their team last season performs at a level worthy of consideration. Sit back and enjoy the season

Firt of all who is Pat Monti? Second of all Sal getting rid of Paige make sense. Sal is Mr AAU and it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
However two of my dogs escaped last week. If anyone sees them please let me know asap. 1 is considered dangerous.

Who is going to challenge the Falls in AA? I say Ken West is a contender. Bailey might be the top player in the NFL this year. They are deep, have two big men on the front line, and are very athletic. Without Butts and Paige Jamestown won’t be as good.

I am a MIG fan. He is passionate about prep bball. I do not agree with Pat M. Sal has never shied away from competition. He does a lot of good for basketball. He is a good man. Trying to blame someone except Paige and his family for leaving Jamestown is dumb.

Total agreement with not a MIG fan. The posting as others for a few self congratulatory chuckles is, for lack of a better word; SAD.
Unfortunately it is a practice that is universal for people who crave attention. So you could fully expect MIG to continue this childish practice.
Expect a long season of him posting as guest or dave or some other visitor to this forum just to to stir the pot.

Hey Patrick Moran quit posing as ‘KK Bundy’ I am a M.I.G. fan, keeps this blog interesting. Sal I’m sure did have something to do with Paige leaving. I wouldn’t be so sure M.I.G. is responsible for the Roger post I know he is in South America until the end of the month helping feed the homeless with Catholic missionaries, and I am not joking.

  19. Help me understand Avatar

Hey KK I don’t care what Sal did or didn’t do but one thought on your post – if MIG or anyone else wanted ‘attention’ as you say – wouldn’t logic be that they would use their real name then? Just checking.

Im done here, can’t wait for the Pastor-Cooper to tip off and basketball talk to begin. And yes I do understand that I have been part of a non basketball discussion. Have a blessed and safe Thanksgiving with family and friends.

I found the dogs. It appears one of them attacked an older gentleman so I may be in some hot water here. Thanks to all who helped me on the search.
And Mcshea’s disciple is out of the country until the end of the month so I think you guys are attacking someone who isn’t even around to do what you claimed. I don’t see why it is so hard to believe a former AAU coach talked to a current AAU coach and got the one thing standing between his team and a trip to Glens Falls out of their way. Doesn’t make him a bad person, or not want to face competition, just makes him want to win.
Happy Thanksgiving. I don’t get much Turkey cause the dogs eat most of it, but enjoy.

It seems the word out of Kentucky is judge ruled Jaysean Paige eligible to play. Hope its all fact because recruited to Kentucky or not, Paige like any high school kid is not going to get his high school years and playing time back and should just have been ruled eligible on basis of living in school district and if he wanted to play. Hope for his sake it all goes as planned.

I think that scrimmage reports would be best left to our football fans from the Southern Tier. I wouldn’t want to impede on their territory.

First of all, I have no idea who this “Pat M” is, but I can ASSURE you that it is not me. I post under one name, my real name, and would never have a reason to do otherwise. If I did, I would create a name better than Pat M. I’ve posted stuff, argued and bantered with many people on here, under my real name, which I will continue to do so.
My assumption from talking with Centercourt is that it’s someone imitating former coach Pat Monti who may have a bone to pick with Sal.
I don’t know Sal all that way, but from what I do know of him he’s a guy with a lot of integrity and intensity, and those passages by “Pat M” sound like a crock to me.
Regarding Jaysean Paige, I have some big news on him, which I will be sharing momentarily as soon as I speak with a final source, which should be any minute.

  29. Patrick Moran Avatar

I spoke to a pair of sources in Kentucky connected with the Paige appeal hearing, and I’m told by both that he has been ruled eligible to stay and play in Kentucky and while that’s not official, an official announcement is expected on either Friday or Monday.
    Here is my story: http://www.buffalosportsdaily.com/source-jaysean-paige-will-win-appeal-in-kentucky/
I tried to hold off for a little bit because I was looking for comment on Drake, but quite understandably I don’t think he’s interested in discussing it anymore and is just ready to move on with the kids that he has.

  30. Pat Look Above Avatar

Hey Pat your ‘big news’ from your ‘source’…c’mon look at the comment Division 1 made two days prior saying he heard Paige was set to play. At least read the comments before you act like you have big news.

  31. Patrick Moran Avatar

To give an update as of Monday morning, the KHSAA has recommended to the school that Jaysean’s ineligibilty be overturned that has his moving was “out of his control”– but as of now the school principal has not signed off on it. Assuming that happens and his course work is up to par, though not “official” he will be ruled eligible to play in Kentucky on December 2.

There is a reason he came to Kentucky and that is personal. Rednecks? Well us rednecks have to be doing something good if he wants to play for us?!? Just to throw this out there Perry county central is known for athletics. Paige has just as much potential in Kentucky as he does anywhere else.

  34. Bob Huggins Avatar
    Bob Huggins

I’m sure it was all about playing for Perry and not about accomodations made for mom and promises made for after high school. The whole Paige saga doesn’t reek of AAU circuit recruiting by people with their own agendas in mind or anything like that.
Sounds like Paige just sort of happened upon Kentucky, a close neighbor of Jamestown, and most likely fell in love with the school’s strong reputation for academic excellence and the fine arts program. Basketball and mom’s new house were just a bonus.

  35. Bea Smith Avatar
    Bea Smith

I saw him play last night and I wasn’t impressed. I think that he has made a horrible mistake in moving to Kentucky. Perhaps if he had transferred to a Louisville or Lexington school, because although Eastern Kentucky is known for it’s love of basketball, not many athletes make it to the bigger colleges. It looked like the Perry County coach really didn’t know what to do with him, he spent a lot of time on the bench last night. I don’t think he is going to be the force he was in New York.
He transferred to a school that is being investigated by the state at this time for academic failures. The basketball program is good but not great. I don’t think mom’s new job and house were worth him throwing away his future.

  36. Patrick Moran Avatar

I speak to a writer regularly who’s covering Perry County hoops in Kentucky. Jaysean struggled his first game, which I’m assuming is the one you saw, and had just 10 points. In the two games since, he’s had 14 points and 8 rebounds, and 32 points and 6 rebounds in his last game Saturday and I heard he caught and slammed home a nasty half-court alley-oop dunk.
So statistically, he’s averaging 18.7 points over his first three– not to bad in what I’m sure is still a new environment. Remember, he was just ruled eligible and able to start practicing a short time ago.
