Random Smatterings 2026 – Week 7

– Benjamin Gerstung celebrated the 1,000 point career milestone with his family following Akron’s loss at Wilson on Wednesday evening.  The four-year varsity senior is the 4th player in program history to score over 1,000 points.  JC Tretter, a 2009 graduate and former NFL center drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2013, is Akron’s all-time scoring leader with 1,574 points.

– Salamanca Senior Peyton Bradley reached career-highs in both points & rebounds, scoring 31 points while grabbing 17 boards to go with his 3 assists in the team’s 59–53 victory over Pioneer.

– Eden sophomore Kobe Genco buried 8 triples in a 68-42 victory over CCA.  It’s the 3rd time the sharpshooter has had at least 8 treys in a game this season.

 – Jaleel Flowers hung a career-high 39 points on Cardinal O’Hara in an 86-77 victory for Buffalo Science.

– Louis Maurice scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on 8 of 12 shooting in a 63–54 victory for Kenmore East over Pioneer.

– Greydan Barwell scored a season high 31-points in Lew-Port’s 66–60 overtime victory against North Tonawanda.

– Trailing by 17 points, Medina rallied to comeback and earn a 50-48 victory over Newfane, getting a late-game go-ahead 3-pointer from senior Jerrell Nealy.

– Tapestry took a 61-2 lead into halftime of its 89-16 win against Cleveland Hill, improving the #1 ranked small school in WNY to 11-0 on the season.

– Nichols opened with a 33-0 run t start the game in a 69-34 win over Cardinal O’Hara.

– Wilson’s 65-58 win over Akron on Wednesday night snapped a 7-game losing streak to the defending N-O champion Tigers, where 4 of the 7 loses had come by double figures.  The win kept the  Lakemen, who are the #2 ranked small school in WNY, undefeated on the season with a two-game lead in the Niagara-Orleans league race.

– K’Vion Tell registered a career-high 36 points in Dunkirk’s 83-47 victory over Cassadaga Valley on Thursday.  It’s the 6th time the junior has scored 30+ points since last season.

– Mac Capen scored 32 of Newfane’s 48 points against Medina on Wednesday, setting a new career-high.  The senior was named 1st Team All-State in football following the Panthers’ Far West Regional championship in November.

– Charlie Croff IV is now Lockport’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing the late great Willie Haynes, a 1985 graduate who finished his career with 1,471 points.  Croff took his place at the top during the 1st quarter of a 29-point effort in a win against Niagara Wheatfield.  His father, Charlie Croff III is 4th all-time at Lockport with 1,275 career points.  After hanging 40 points on Williamsville South on Friday night, Croff now has 1,532 career points.

– In Wilson’s 49-27 victory over Newfane on Friday, it was the fewest points allowed by the Lakemen since the 2022 season.  The game was a defensive battle in both directions, with Wilson scoring a season-low 49 in the game, thanks to the tremendous assignment defense played by Newfane’s Isaac Zachery.

– Greydan Barnwell & Michael Wylke each had 21-point halves in Lew-Port’s 74-54 victory over Amherst on Friday.

– Tapestry sophomore Gordon Dean scored a career-high 22 points and earned 8 steals in the Thunderhawks’ 103-55 win over Holland. 

– Hamburg sophomore Zach McDonnell has been on a mini heater, scoring 20+ points in his last 4 outings, after doing it twice in the first 8 games this season.

– Juan Pagan scored a career-high 26 points for Global Concepts in a 65-25 win at Eden.
