– Justus Kleitz entered a rare fraternity of local high school hoops legends on Saturday when his 29 point effort in a win against West Seneca East put him over 2,000 points scored in his career. Kleitz entered that game coming off his 2nd game in a row with 40+ points and 4th of the season, piling up 47 points with 7 rebounds, 7 steals, & 5 assists in an 88-61 win over Cheektowaga. Kleitz is averaging 35.8 ppg and the Red Hawks are 14-1 on the season.
– Harlem Brannon now sits atop the all-time scoring list at Kenmore West after surpassing the previous record of 1,172 points held by Edvin Ramulic, a 2008 graduate. Brannon scored 22 points with 9 boards & 8 assists on the record setting night against Grand Island, after scoring 35 points & grabbing 10 rebounds two nights earlier in a victory over CSAT. Brannon is also the program’s all-time leader in steals.
– Dunkirk has a new all-time scoring leader and the that record will continue to grow. K’Vion Tell scored 30 points in a victory at Fredonia on Tuesday evening to become the program’s new scoring leader in his junior season. That was coming off 31 points in a 57-53 win against Southwestern and he would finish off the week with 32 points in a 65-38 win over Falconer. Tell has been on a torrid scoring clip this season, piling up 30+ points in 9 games, with three games remaining for the Marauders in the regular season, a playoff run, and a senior season ahead of him.
– Kobe Genco went off for a career-high 42 points in Eden’s Friday night win over Cleveland Hill. Genco also broke his own school record for 3-pointers made in a game, sinking 11 triples on the night. Genco, who is just a sophomore, eclipsed 1,000 career points in the performance.
– Pine Valley picked up just its 3rd win of the season over a Cattaraugus-Little Valley squad that came into the game with an 11-3 record. The Panthers lost to the #10 ranked small school from Sherman, 72-23, and their previous two victories had come against Franklinville (2-12) & North Collins (3-12).
– On Monday evening, Williamsville East defeated Amherst, 62-54, to earn the sweep in the season series between the two teams. It marked the first time in 20 years, dating back to the 2006 season, that the Flames won both regular season meetings over Amherst.
– Williamsville South got 16 points & 16 rebounds from Sean Munzert in a 65-60 league win over Sweet Home, who entered the game with a 6-0 record in ECIC II.
– Amir Moye scored 34 points in an 89-49 victory for Health Sciences over McKinley.
– Aidan DeFazzio scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Portville’s 59-39 win against Silver Creek and came back with 30 points & 10 rebounds the next time out in a loss to Gowanda.
– Aidan Neumann scored 34 points in Wilson’s double OT victory at Medina, the 2nd consecutive season the Lakemen & Mustangs have needed extra time to settle things in Medina.
– By winning its 12th game of the season over Westfield on Monday, Global Concepts guaranteed itself a winning season for the first time in program history. The Gators began competition in WNY high school hoops in 2013 and the previous mark for most wins in a season came in 2015 when the team won 10 games.
– Gavin Johnson finished with a career-high 26 points in Jamestown’s 62-47 win at Orchard Park that gave them sole possession of 1st place in ECIC I. The senior knocked down 7 of 14 from 3-point land in the win, including 4 bangers in the opening frame.
– Justin Benning drilled three 3-pointers in the game’s opening minutes and finished with 5 triples, as Nichols raced out to a 15-4 start against St. Joe’s, ultimately knocking them from 1st place in the MMA with the victory.
– NYS Basketball Hall of Fame head coach Starling Bryant won his final home game at East on Tuesday evening, a 60-52 victory over Riverside.
– Lockport senior Charlie Croff dropped 37 points on North Tonawanda in a 69-61 win.
– Michael Wylke scored a career-high 33 points in Lew-Port’s 90-71 win against Ken East. Wylke & Greydan Barnwell each splashed five 3-pointers on the evening, with Barnwell netting 23 points to go with 14 assists.
– Grant Beadle hauled in a career-high 24 rebounds in a 68-41 Westfield win over Panama and went on to grab 22 boards on Friday in a loss to Clymer, marking the 4th time this season Beadle has registered 20+ boards in a game.
– Blake Waterman grabbed 19 rebounds for Forestville in the team’s 82-43 rout over North Collins.
– Joe Mest connected on 7 triples for Olean in a 60-45 victory over Falconer. The Huskies have won 5 of their last 6 games.
– Clymer head coach Irv King was honored by current and former players last week during the team’s game against Southwestern. The 33 year coach, who graduated from Clymer in 1987, will retire at the end of the year.
– Brody Monaco had his most productive game of the season for Orchard Park, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in a 72-43 win against Lancaster.
– McKinley’s Anthony Moore recorded 10 steals in an 80-35 win over Hutch Tech.
– Tacari McCray finished with 33 points and 10 assists in Olmsted’s 73-38 victory against Buffalo Culinary.
– Tapestry is the last undefeated team (16-0) in WNY with a gauntlet of a final week ahead. The Thunderhawks host Holland on Monday and after one day off, play back-to-back against Global Concepts & Niagara Falls on Wednesday & Thursday.
